Naval Base Kitsap (NBK) was officially established June 4, 2004 when five geographically separate naval installations on Washington state’s Kitsap Peninsula, Naval Station Bremerton, Submarine Base Bangor, Keyport, Manchester Fuel Depot, and Jackson Park Housing were centralized as one command.
As the largest naval installation in the Northwest, and third largest in the U.S., NBK is conceivably the most complex base in the Navy inventory, but is without question one of the most important jewels in the Navy’s strategic crown.
NBK encompasses more than 10,000 acres and provides services to nearly 70 tenant commands, including two Nimitz-class aircraft carriers, three categories of submarines, and three flag commands (Commander Navy Region Northwest, Commander Submarine Group Nine, and Commander Carrier Strike Group Three). Some of the largest commands on board NBK are Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility, Strategic Weapons Facility Pacific Northwest, Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division Keyport and Naval Facilities Engineering Command Northwest.
To support the Navy by providing reliable and timely base operating services for our ships, submarines, and shore commands in Bangor, Bremerton, Keyport, and Manchester. Naval Base Kitsap provides critical services, programs, and facilities that meet the needs of hosted war-fighting commands and installation employees. NBK will continue to be the best place to serve in the Navy.
